Ships is an institution among the classic coffee shops. However, unfortunately the last Ships went down in the mid-90's. From the jetset arrow to googie coffee shop architecture, the various Ships Coffee Shops were classic examples of the space age look.

Featuring a huge "fat boy" character on its marquee, Johnie's Broiler stands out as a classic coffee shop amidst redevelopment.

Here are some night neon shots of Johnie's Broiler as well as a couple of interior shots. Note the vintage eating area inside.

Here's the Johnie's coffeeshop at dusk, featuring its neon in full view. Too bad the days of Summer couldn't be spent at Johnie's like this again.
