The Hawthorne Grill was part of the movie Pulp Fiction. Unfortunately, it was torn down soon afterwards to make way for new development. Stan Kite's Restaurant The Kite Restaurant and barbeque is an old coffee shop that's met up with recent neglect. The marquee itself is something to marvel at but the location is sad and nostalgic.
Check out this classic Norm's Restaurant, located in Huntington Park. Still features the classic coffee shop architecture and the imprint and special touch of architect Armet & Davis.
This classic Denny's on Route 66 in Arcadia was recently converted to the diner look. Saved was the windmill on top, due to a rally which included members of the L.A. Conservancy and Route 66 organization.
Here's the famous "celebrity" Norm's off La Cienega in Los Angeles. Known to be a late night hangout of the stars in recent times, this location is one of the earliest Norm's in existence. This Norm's also recently had its neon sign restored back to its original glory.
Looking for an interesting looking old googie like sign? Well, the sign out front Jack's in Whittier is the one for you. This place has two signs... unfortunately this one doesn't light up anymore. Here's a shot of the other Jack's marquee all lit up at night.
Yes, we know this section is for coffee shop classics. But, there's somewhat of a coffee shop at the Space Age Lodge at Gila Bend, AZ.
Traveling the Miracle Mile, you will run across an old coffee shop across from the former location of May Co, Wilshire. Yes, it's Johnie's, the former Romeo's Times Square. Although the location is not quite just a coffee shop, the Holiday Bowl does have a real doozy. Well, at least it had. Although this place is now boarded up, it seems like the coffee shop part of this bowling complex will be saved, thanks to the tremendous efforts of the Los Angeles Conservancy's Modern Committee. Hats off to this non-profit organization for perhaps saving another Southern California treasure from oblivion.
Check out Goody's Restaurant. This sign has been repainted a few times and is now a bright orange. Here's a shot of this sign at night.
Yes, although this place may belong in Roadside Peek's Northern California section, Biff's certainly belongs among the classic coffee shops. A non-profit group called Save Biff's saved this one from the big coffee shop in the sky.
