is the Palm Desert/Indio region of the Coachella valley. With many thanks
to super eyewitness Ralph Squillace, Palm Desert/Indio is now on the air.
Other desert areas will be added in the near future.
Chief Theatre As the heyday of the magnificent single-screen theatre passed, many of
the majestic movie palaces were gutted, transformed into swap meet like
bazaars, torn down, or converted to churches. This movie house in the
San Joaquin Valley was Update 07/07 : Chief Theatre
This dino stands guard just off the interstate in Cabazon. His friend Dinnie is nearby (not in photo).
Anyway, this is a genuine streamlined diner car from, I think, the Union Pacific that served as a diner not on 66 but on old US 395 down near March AFB. It was known as the Liberty Diner and was donated when 395 was widened to make room for modern-day Interstate 215. Thediner car was donated to and is currently on display at the Orange Empire Railway Museum in Perris. Info courtesy Ralph Squillace
