Here's the Strong Building, located in Beloit. Built in 1923 by businessman Fred Strong, the building has been a downtown landmark for more than a century.

Its brick exterior, decorative terra cotta detailing, and clean vertical lines reflect the changing styles of commercial architecture during the 1920s. For years, the upper floors housed professional offices while the storefronts at street level served local businesses, making the building an important part of downtown Beloit's commercial district.

Recognizing its architectural significance, the Strong Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. Today it remains one of the city's most recognizable historic buildings and a reminder of Beloit's prosperous early twentieth-century downtown. 09-10

UPDATE: The Strong Building continues to be preserved and remains an active part of downtown Beloit. The historic structure has been adaptively reused over the years while retaining the architectural character that has made it a local landmark for generations. 06-26
