The old Rexall sign at Florence Drug still projected over Main Street when this photo was taken. The 1925 building began as an automobile dealership before becoming a Rexall pharmacy in the early 1950s. 03-06
Florence Drug served the community for more than 60 years before closing in 2012.
UPDATE: The drug store closed its doors in the past 10 years however the sign is still here. The painted lettering in front of the drug store is now gone. 06-23
UPDATE: The historic building was later repurposed for Barrels & Bean, a cafe serving coffee, food, beer, and wine. Fortunately, the classic orange-and-blue Rexall sign was preserved outside. 09-26
Buckeye Pharmacy (Gone)

The Buckeye Valu-Rite Pharmacy was one of the old locally owned businesses along Monroe Avenue in downtown Buckeye. Its roadside sign sat just above the roofline, making the little pharmacy easy to spot from old Highway 80. 06-23
The store belonged to the Valu-Rite network, which allowed independent drugstores to share purchasing and advertising power while remaining locally operated. It gave hometown pharmacies a better chance to compete as larger chains moved into communities like Buckeye.

Not much information has surfaced about when Buckeye Pharmacy opened or finally filled its last prescription. The old storefront and rooftop sign remain a reminder of the days when the neighborhood pharmacist usually knew the customers walking through the door.
UPDATE: Buckeye Pharmacy has closed, and its old rooftop sign has been removed. The present use of the former storefront remains uncertain. 09-26
