Here's an old neighborhood grocery called El Cañonazo Market. The colorful storefront sign and hand-painted lettering gave the place the look of a market that had been serving local customers for quite a few years. 12-10
The original RoadsidePeek entry placed the market in Atwater, California, the small Highway 99 town near Merced. It turns out the store was actually located in Atwater Village, a Los Angeles neighborhood along Glendale Boulevard. Somewhere along the way, “Village” went missing and the market took an accidental trip to the Central Valley.
El Cañonazo was a family-owned neighborhood market that operated for about 40 years. The name was also misspelled in the original caption as “El Canonazom,” adding another little twist to tracking down the correct location.
UPDATE: El Cañonazo Market closed in April 2018, and the old storefront sign was removed. The commercial building remains standing at 3168 Glendale Boulevard in Los Angeles and has since been used for other purposes. 09-26
