Just off Highway 62 in Yucca Valley, the old Sky Harbor Realty sign still lights up the desert night. The realty office took its name from the nearby Sky Harbor neighborhood, while its custom neon gave Joshua Lane a little extra roadside glow. 08-05

UPDATE: The "Sky Harbor" sign you have listed for 29 Palms (since been corrected) is actually located on Joshua Lane in Yucca Valley, California. It is about 1/2 block south of Hwy 62 (Twenty nine Palms Hwy)....Yes, it still lights up the night. Many thanks to Linda Winters for correction and update. 08-05

Rancho Super Car Wash

Rolling along Highway 111 in Rancho Mirage, it is hard to miss the friendly pink elephant at Rancho Super Car Wash. The animated neon makes the elephant appear to spin beneath the CAR WASH lettering. Getting the car cleaned is fine, but the elephant is the real reason to pull over. 08-09

The sign belongs to the same family as the famous elephant car washes in Seattle. Originally made for a Portland location, it was brought to Rancho Mirage when the car wash opened in 1966.

UPDATE: The car wash remains open, and the elephant was designated a historic landmark and restored in 2023. A vehicle collision damaged part of the sign in April 2026, requiring additional repairs, but the pink elephant survives. 09-26
