Deco Delights Northern California

3022 Building

At the corner of Stockton Boulevard and Broadway, check out the bold lines of Sacramento’s 3022 Building. The rounded corner, smooth walls, and strong horizontal bands give this little commercial block plenty of Streamline Moderne character. Even sitting vacant, it still looked ready to glide down the street.

The original construction date and architect remain uncertain, but the building survived as a clean example of the Art Deco styling once found along Sacramento’s neighborhood commercial corridors.

UPDATE: This deco vacant building called 3022 Building is now home to the Boon Boon Cafe, a Thai food restaurant. Redevelopment continues in Sacramento. 08-12

UPDATE: After standing empty for several years, the 3022 Building reopened as Boon Boon Cafe in July 2012. That restaurant later closed, but the building remains in commercial use and has continued to house restaurant tenants, including Darbar Halal Restaurant. Its storefront signs and awnings have changed, while the rounded Deco shell remains. 09-26
