Here's an old car wash that reminiscent of the googie style ones found in other areas. The boomerang supports are both functional and eye-catching in the way they support the structure as well as draw attention to what otherwise would be just another car wash.

One look at the roof is all it takes to know that Lozano Brushless Car Wash isn't an ordinary car wash. The dramatic boomerang supports lean out over the wash bays like they're in motion, turning a simple place to wash your car into a piece of roadside art. It's the kind of Googie design that makes you slow down, even if your car is already clean.

Built in 1957 along El Camino Real in Mountain View, California, the wash has managed to survive while so many other space-age buildings have disappeared. Those sweeping supports are every bit as eye-catching today as they were when finned automobiles ruled the road.

UPDATE: The former Lozano Brushless Car Wash reopened as a Kaady Car Wash in 2024. The famous Googie structure remains, although the roadside sign has been updated for the new business. 07-26
