Curran Cadillac (Gone)

The Cadillac used cars sign was located at Curran Cadillac on US 1 in Westport, CT but was recently taken down. Many thanks to Rick Ibsen for info. 03-08

The dealership opened at this location in 1964 and eventually became Curran Cadillac in the mid-'70s. For decades, Cadillacs filled the glass-fronted showroom and the lot along one of Connecticut's busiest commercial strips. Curran Cadillac closed in 2008 after more than four decades at this location, and the old dealership signs came down.

UPDATE: The former showroom still stands and was converted into the Terrain home and garden store, which opened here in 2012. The old Cadillac signage has been removed. 08-26

McLean Ford (Rem.)

Cruising along Route 44 east of Millerton, this McLean Ford sign was pretty hard to miss. The big Ford and Mercury logos advertised the family dealership for years, back when seeing both names together on a roadside sign was still a familiar sight. 10-09

McLean Ford opened here in 1984 and spent more than 30 years selling cars and trucks along this stretch of highway. The Mercury half of the sign became a reminder of another time after Ford discontinued the brand in 2011. McLean Ford changed hands in 2017 and became North East Ford shortly afterward.

UPDATE: North East Ford continues selling cars at the old McLean location. The vintage McLean Ford-Mercury sign has been removed and replaced with modern Ford signage. 08-26
