Welcome to Coney I’Lander along Route 66 in Tulsa. The business traces its beginnings to 1926, when Greek immigrant Christ Economou opened a downtown hot dog shop.

Its Tulsa-style coneys come topped with all-meat chili, mustard and onions. That straightforward combination helped turn a lunch-counter business into a local chain and a tradition for generations of customers.

The 11th Street location gave Mother Road travelers a convenient introduction. Sometimes a quick roadside lunch comes with quite a bit of local history. 08-17

UPDATE: Coney I’Lander continues operating multiple Tulsa-area locations. Storefronts and signs have changed, but the familiar coney dogs remain the main attraction a century after the business began. 06-26
