Roadside Cleaners Great Plains

Day Nite Cleaners
Tulsa, OK

Here's a neat-looking building called Day Nite Cleaners. I originally described it as "pseudo deco," but it's actually a great example of Streamline Art Deco architecture. With its rounded corners, horizontal lines, bright pink exterior, and classic neon sign, it's one of the more distinctive buildings you'll find along Tulsa's stretch of Route 66.

Although it no longer operates as a neighborhood dry cleaners, the building has been carefully preserved and now houses Day & Nite Rugs. It's nice to see a historic roadside building continue serving a purpose while keeping its original character intact. 08-11

UPDATE: The building remains in excellent condition and continues to house Day & Nite Rugs. Its restored neon sign is one of many historic Tulsa signs brought back to life through the city's Route 66 Neon Sign Grant Program, making this colorful landmark well worth a look when traveling Route 66 through downtown Tulsa. 06-26
