The Downtown Motel in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, lived up to its name, sitting just a short distance from the heart of downtown. Its vertical neon sign was the real standout, giving the motel a classic roadside look that was hard to miss. 06-14

Like many older independent motels, the Downtown Motel eventually found a new purpose. The former motel building has been converted into supportive housing, bringing new life to the property while ending its days as a roadside stop for travelers. Unfortunately, the vintage neon sign has also disappeared.

UPDATE: The Downtown Motel no longer operates as a motel. The building has been converted into supportive housing, and the classic vertical neon sign has been removed. 07-26
