4 Lanes Liquors was once a classic roadside stop along Route 66 in Winslow. The real eye-catcher was its colorful marquee, topped by a neon martini glass that looked especially inviting after the Arizona sun went down. 09-21
Not much appears to have survived about the history of the business, including its exact address or opening date. The name probably referred to the four-lane stretch of Route 66 running through town, where a bright sign could catch the attention of travelers before they rolled on toward Flagstaff or Holbrook.

The martini glass was a fun bit of roadside advertising, instantly telling motorists what waited inside without needing many words. Signs like this once gave Winslow’s commercial strip plenty of personality, especially when the neon came alive after dark.
Unfortunately, the liquor store was demolished and its distinctive marquee removed. Today, the photographs offer a look back at another colorful Route 66 stop that has disappeared from the roadside.

Arrowhead Liquors (Gone)

Arrowhead Liquors was a longtime neighborhood stop at 318 E. 2nd Street along old Route 66 in Winslow. Bright neon letters stretched across the storefront, making this one hard to miss when cruising through town after dark. 09-21
Unfortunately the business shoot down several years ago and the whole building is completely stripped of any sign of it being a liquor store back in the day.
The store was operated by Guadalupe and Virginia Lopez for more than 45 years. Unfortunately, Arrowhead Liquors eventually closed and all of its colorful signage was stripped from the building.
UPDATE: The building remains, but the neon letters and every trace of the old liquor store are gone. 09-26
Oasis Package Liquors (Closed)

Oasis Package Liquors was a familiar Route 66 sight at 703 E. 3rd Street in Winslow. Its tall roadside sign could be spotted from a distance, giving travelers plenty of time to make the turn. 09-21
The liquor store was serving the Mother Road by at least 1967, and its towering sign appears to date from around the same era. After decades in business, the Oasis eventually closed and the building was left vacant.
UPDATE: Oasis Package Liquors remains closed, but its tall and weathered roadside sign still marks the old location. 09-26
Liquor Corral

Liquor Corral is an old neighborhood liquor store found along historic US 80 in Buckeye. The business once had a much more colorful roadside appearance and was also known as Liquor Corral Video during the movie-rental days. 06-23
The store remains open and still has its handy drive-through window. Unfortunately, the vintage signage and much of the old character have been replaced by a rather plain modern exterior.
UPDATE: Liquor Corral remains open at 429 E. Monroe Avenue, although its classic roadside look is gone. 09-26
Lamp Post Liquors (Demolished)

Lamp Post Liquors was once a drive-in liquor store at 1820 W. Miracle Mile in Tucson. Its tall roadside sign was topped by an actual lamp post, just in case passing motorists had any trouble remembering the name. 06-23
The store was already doing business by the 1960s, when Miracle Mile was lined with neon motels, restaurants and other places designed to catch the attention of highway travelers. Its unusual sign fit right in with the colorful roadside scene.
Unfortunately, the liquor store was later demolished and its one-of-a-kind lamp post sign disappeared along with it. Even the building is gone, leaving an empty lot where this quirky Tucson landmark once stood.
UPDATE: Lamp Post Liquors remains demolished and the old Miracle Mile property is still vacant. 09-26
Lloyd's Drive-in Liquors

Lloyd’s Drive-in Liquors features one of Prescott’s more unusual surviving roadside signs. The large neon marquee is shaped like a wooden barrel, offering a pretty good clue about what motorists will find inside. 06-23
The old sign still spells out “Lloyd’s Drive-In Liquors,” although the business is now usually called Lloyd’s Liquors. The exact age of the barrel is uncertain, but its shape, lettering and neon give it plenty of mid-century roadside flavor.
Unlike so many vintage liquor stores and their signs, Lloyd’s remains in business at 1102 W. Iron Springs Road. The store continues to sell wine, craft beer and spirits, while the old barrel keeps watch over the parking lot.
UPDATE: Lloyd’s Liquors remains open, and its distinctive barrel-shaped neon sign continues to survive. 09-26
Cosmetics and Liquors (Gone)

Consumers Market once stood on N. Stone Avenue in Tucson. Its roadside sign boldly advertised “Cosmetics and Liquors,” an odd combination today, but apparently quite handy in 1946. 07-23
The market also carried groceries, drugs and fresh meats. Unfortunately, the old store was later demolished and its distinctive sign removed.
UPDATE: The Consumers Market building and its Cosmetics and Liquors sign remain gone. 09-26
