Hungry for some Malt-O-Meal? Well, the next best thing might be a juicy burger from Coachella Burgers along Highway 111. Despite the old Indio listing, this roadside stand was actually located just across the city line in Coachella.

It made a handy stop after fighting the heat and flies around the Mecca Roadside Man. Grab a burger, some fries, and a cold drink before heading back out into the desert. Whether Malt-O-Meal ever appeared on the menu remains a mystery. Probably better to stick with the burger.

UPDATE: Coachella Burgers became Andy’s No. 5 Burgers around 2000. The original sign is gone, but the building and drive-through remain open for charbroiled burgers, breakfast, chili cheese fries, and shakes. 09-26
