An old television on the blink? The sign at Ray's Radio & TV Services in Oceanside recalls the days when that meant a trip to the repair shop. Check out this double-sided neon marquee, still announcing a business that stopped taking repair work decades ago.

Raymond Nolasco operated the shop at South Freeman and Godfrey Streets during the postwar years. Along with fixing radios and televisions, he worked as a cemetery groundskeeper and later superintendent. Quite a different set of duties waiting outside the repair shop.

The business closed in the early to mid-1960s, but the sign stayed behind. Its location beside a cemetery makes it an unusual neighborhood survivor. Not quite where a passing sign hunter might expect to find an invitation to bring in the family television.

UPDATE: Ray's repair shop is closed, but its vintage neon marquee survives at the property. Whether it still lights up at night remains unconfirmed. 10-26
