World's Tallest Thermometer
Baker, CA

Near the Death Valley of California stands a tall thermostat. Yep, it's the World's Tallest Thermometer in Baker. Seen off the I-15 for motorists heading between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, the latest temperature reading is easily read.

UPDATE 12/12 : In recent years, this roadside icon has seen its neon slowly disappear and now the thermometer has been dark for the past few years. According to Southern California public radio station 89.3 KPCC, the 134-foot structure no longer lights up and the owner claims he can't afford the electricity bill which runs about $8,000 a month. Some community leaders now want the Thermometer taken down. See this article for more information. 12-12
