The Rafael Theater in downtown San Rafael still is open for business on a busy Saturday night. Jose Theatre Originally built back in the 1900's, the Jose Theatre is another San Jose theater that was rescued from possible demolition. This theater was damaged by the earthquake that hit the area in the late 1980's. The San Jose City Council put aside money and the neon glow to the left is the fruits of their persistence and efforts. The Improv is the current tenant at the site.
The Tower Theatre in Roseville, CA still glows at night.
This neon shot of the Stanford Theatre in Palo Alto shows the marquee still lighting up the sky. From the looks of things, the theatre is showing some old classic movies.
Here's another nice grand theatre, this one located in Yuba City. And yes, the neon at the Sutter still glows. Towne Theatre The Towne Theatre is still open for business near downtown San Jose. The animated neon sign on the front facade will catch any passerby's eye. Here's a daytime shot of the front.
The Esquire Theatre is a deco looking theatre with fully functioning neon. This theatre can be seen for quite a distance.
Another theatre featuring great neon on its front, the Oaks Theatre in Berkeley still lights up the street at night. Restored in the early 1990's, the Oaks original opened its doors for business in 1925. Tower Theatre The Tower Theatre in downtown Sacramento features a full fledged neon tower top.
Here's a night shot of the art deco Noyo Theatre in Willits. Check out the fancy lit up neon lettering and decor. Fox California Theatre The Fox California Theatre in San Jose originally opened its doors in the late 20's. Good news is that the San Jose Redevelopment Agency along with other benefactors restored this theater about a year ago to its original neon glory.
