Circle Inn Sign, during better days

The Circle Inn in Dallas, TX is now history, an unfortunate victim of some needed light rail expansion efforts. DART plans to build a northwest line station on this site. The Circle Inn was noteworthy for its huge marquee featuring a fittingly "circle" themed sign with bold colors.

According to an article in the Dallas Morning News, a sign maker collector rescued the Circle Inn neon signs before demolition.

The Circle Inn once had a partnering bowling alley called the Circle Bowl, which closed down in 1988. The last couple of decades saw the Circle Inn decline as did many of the old roadside motor court establishments built in the mid-century era.

Unfortunately, the Circle Inn, built in 1959, wasn't able to make it to its 50th birthday.

Below are a couple of photos of the Circle Inn as it's being demolished. Another roadside treasure has closed its book.

Many thanks to Mary Schlepphorst for contact regarding the fate of the Circle Inn.
