Here's a photo of the former Lankershim Theatre in North Hollywood. The Lankershim was a movie theatre up until the 1970's when it ended its run showing adult films. The Lankershim is now being used as a church. Many thanks to Elgin MacMillan for info. 11-10

The Lankershim Theatre made its name easy to spot along the boulevard, with a tall vertical sign welcoming neighborhood moviegoers. Its familiar lettering gave passing motorists a landmark and friends a place to meet before the show.

Opened in February 1947 at 7532 Lankershim Boulevard, the single-screen house served the growing postwar San Fernando Valley. Movies eventually gave way to church services, but the sign remained outside for years as a reminder of the building’s earlier crowds.

UPDATE: The vertical sign came down in 2013, but thankfully avoided the scrap heap. Valley Relics Museum rescued it, preserving a familiar piece of North Hollywood’s moviegoing past. The former theatre survives without its towering name, while the sign has found another chapter among the Valley’s roadside treasures. 10-26

The Landmark Events Center brings a little Deco character to Anaheim Boulevard. Its stylized frontage gives the building an entrance worth noticing, with more personality than the usual banquet-hall exterior. Before heading inside for a celebration, take a moment to check out the architectural details facing the street. This is one event stop where the building deserves a photograph of its own. 04-06

Located at 408 N. Anaheim Boulevard, the property has been known as Landmark Special Events, accommodating celebrations and gatherings near downtown Anaheim. Its decorative facade gives guests a recognizable destination among the surrounding commercial buildings.

Much of the roadside appeal comes from that exterior. The entrance offers a reminder that interesting architecture isn’t limited to grand movie palaces or famous hotels. Sometimes a smaller commercial building supplies an equally worthwhile stop, especially when its older styling remains easy to appreciate from the sidewalk.

UPDATE: The address continues to be listed as Landmark Special Events. For roadside enthusiasts, the attraction remains the building’s distinctive frontage and its contribution to the older commercial streetscape. Keep an eye out while traveling Anaheim Boulevard—there’s more to see here than the destination on the invitation. 10-26
