Michigan is home to the Bowlero and its multi-colored block lettering marquee. This vintage sign can be seen for miles... or at least blocks. 04-01
The Cloverlanes in Livonia, Michigan features an old sign advertising its lounge and bar. This 64 lane alley is one of the most unusual buildings out there. Many thanks to Scott Crawford for Cloverlanes Bowl info and correction on name. 04-01
The Ypsi Arbor Bowl features a unique sign, to say the least. Check out the Bowling Pins spelling out "BOWL" in its own unique way.
How about the Town and Country Lanes of Columbia, MO. This sign features a huge bowling pin and ball as part of its marquee design.
The Villa Lanes sports a huge boomerang arrow on its marquee. A good place to go to for some ten pin alley action. 01-01
Here's the Al-Mar Colonial Lanes with its relatively subdued sign out front. 01-01
The Rainbow Lanes shown here is located in Fremont, OH. A fine place to bowl a few rounds in the Winter when you need a place to escape the snow. 01-01
This neat tile mosaic sporting a 40's - styled man bowling was spotted on a closed-down bowling alley in Hammond, IN. Many thanks to Don Gardner for photo and info. Update 07/07 : The Bowling Man mosaic is from the Bowl Era Lanes on Calumet Ave in the Southside of Hammond, Indiana. The lanes closed down many years ago, but, I believe, is still standing. It had lanes upstairs and downstairs, a pro shop, and an old time Calumet Region bowling alley bar. Bowl Era was an old time alley, and was hurt badly when Stardust Lanes opened across town on Columbia Ave in the late 60's. Bowl Era also had a White Castle across the street, which remains. Many thanks to Mark R. Dongu for update and identification of the location of this "bowling man" mosaic. 07-07 Update 10/08 : The Bowl Era Lanes had its roof collapse and appears to be in danger of being demolished soon.
The bowling alley was first built in 1940 and originally housed a skating rink on the 2nd floor. According to the September 26, 2008 article in The Times, the Bowl-Era closed in 1995. The Bowl-Era is known for its mosaic tile "bowling man". 10-08
