French Village Drive-in Theater
St Louis, MO

This old faded drive-in marquee sits aside the French Village Drive-in Theater in East St Louis, MO. Happening to come across it by chance in 2000, the drive-in exuded the sense of nostalgia to days gone by when crowds of visitors used to get in line to enter the lot. A few months later a body of a missing East St Louis dentist was found in the abandoned ticket booth after locals complained about the stench.

The drive in was built in 1942 during the start of the heyday of drive-in theaters. The theater closed down in 1992 and in its latter years was home to the Church of the Living God of Fairview. The theater was demolished five years after these photos were taken in 2005. 11-20
