Fendall's Ice Cream in Salt Lake City featured a good old-fashioned roadside marquee. Fendall's dated back to 1910, while this location on 700 East opened in 1957. The company proudly claimed to be "Utah's Oldest Designer Gourmet Ice Cream."
Founded by Edmund Fendall, the company became a longtime Utah favorite known for unique flavors and seasonal specialties. Over the years, generations of Salt Lake residents stopped by for ice cream cones, sundaes, and holiday treats. One local tradition was the "snowball," a scoop of vanilla ice cream rolled in coconut and topped with a maraschino cherry. 09-06
UPDATE: Fendall's is no longer producing ice cream. 08-14
UPDATE: Fendall's closed its ice cream parlor in 1997, with a pizza restaurant later taking over the main storefront. Ice cream production continued for a number of years afterward, but the company eventually ceased operations altogether. The building and its classic roadside marquee have since been demolished, leaving photographs like this as a reminder of one of Salt Lake City's longtime ice cream landmarks. 06-26
