Route 66The marquee for the Route 66 Motel has marked the start of marathon road trips to Arizona many times. Here's a shot of the marquee glowing at dusk. 01-07

UPDATE 10/20 : The Route 66 Motel sign still serves as a beacon to Route 66 travelers passing through the landmark town of Seligman, AZ late at night. The neon still burns and hopefully will continue to for many years to come as other neon signs burn out or are removed. 10/20

Check out this neon shot of the marquee for Andy Womack's Flamingo Motor Hotel off Route 66 in Flagstaff, AZ. Not sure if this motel is still around, or at least if the marquee is. 03-08

UPDATE 05/08 : The Flamingo Motor Motel has been gone for more than 10 years now, demolished to make way for a Barnes & Noble Bookstore that now sits on that site. The sign was probably destroyed along with the rest of the place. Many thanks to Ellen Roberts for update. 05-08

Wigwam Motel
Holbrook, AZ

Route 66The Wigwam Motel on Route 66 in Holbrook is another Route 66 establishment that caters to nostalgia. The classic cars in front of each teepee as well as the neon all serve as reminders to Route 66's heyday as the Mother Road. The Wigwam is frequently sold out so make your reservations early in advance if you plan to experience what it's like to spend the night in a teepee. 10-08
