Roy's Motel

Roy's Motel in Amboy is a Route 66 treasure and landmark. First opening in 1938 with the sign erected in 1959, Roy's was opened by the Route 66 legend Buster Burris.

Today, Roy's and the town of Amboy is owned by Albert Okura, known for his Juan Pollo restaurants. Okura has stated that he plans to restore Amboy. 04-06

Here's what's left of the North Shore Yacht Club Motel in Salton City, CA. The motel has been deserted for a decade or more. The whole place looks spookily abandoned. 05-08

UPDATE 12/08 : The North Shore Motel is in the process of being demolished. 12-08

(Below)The Green Spot Motel in Barstow, CA, just off Route 66, is still open for business. The original marquee was replaced by a backlit plastic sign several years ago. Fortunately, the original sign was saved and is on display at the Route 66 Museum in Barstow. 05-06
