The grand opening of the Grand Lake Theatre was March 6, 1926. It opened as a vaudeville show and silent movie house. You can still hear the sounds of the Mighty Wurlitzer on Friday and Saturday nights! Expanded in 1981 and 1985, converting balcony seating and storefronts along Grand Avenue into multi-screen auditoriums.

Many thanks to Adriene Biondo for photos and text.

This Tower Theatre still stands tall, though it doesn't appear to be a first run movie house any more.

Here's a color-rich facade for the Bal Theatre. Looks like this place is still in business, with eye-catching hues to drive in the prospective theatre goer.

The California Theatre is a gem of a movie palace that look well kept.

Here's the Colonial Theatre in Sacramento. Still closed, this deco delight used to run X rated films prior to its demise.
