The Los Angeles Coin marquee looks like a key. Maybe this was a key place at one time?

Hammerford Construction (Closed)
Whittier, CA

Hammerford Construction in Whittier features a larger than life hammer on its marquee. The sign is of the "can't miss" variety. It's a good example of programmatic signage.

UPDATE 11-20 : The hammer sign still stands on Washington Boulevard though Hammerford Construction is longer here. Multiple businesses now occupy the site.

This giant bulb sits outside of Stan's Lighting in Los Angeles. Now this is one large bulb. Stan's is located at 5925 W. Pico Boulevard just west of Fairfax.

UPDATE 11/20 : Stan's Lighting closed down a long time ago. The bulb has been gone for many years as well. The site is now home to Lock Box Fitness and Performance.

Krazy Kone (Gone)
Montebello, CA

The Krazy Kone in Montebello is a good place to look at when its hot outside. This place looks like some type of silk screen place now.

UPDATE 01/02 : In the late 40's and early 50's this sign marked the Curries Ice Cream shop, always a welcome destination. It was a great place to get "hand packed" ice cream to go, as well as cones. Many thanks to Tom Cockle for historical info posted above. 01-02

Shasta Beverages
La Mirada, CA

Imagine traveling down the road on a hot day, thirsty, and all of a sudden a huge Shasta soda can appears in your sights. What do you do? Stop and snap a photo of course! The Shasta business and sign is located at 14405 Artesia Boulevard. The sign gets repainted over the years with different flavor themes.
