Here a shot of the Jade Restaurant and Curio shop back in the day along with a photo of the place in current times. Besides the awnings, the old shot of the Jade featured some sort of character on the marquee. As is typical these days, the old character signage was replaced with a bit of backlit plastic. Yes, the then shot is on the far left.
A roadside establishment off Route 66, Rod's Steak House in Williams, AZ serves up some good hearty beef to the hungry adventurer. For a neon look at this marquee, take a look here.

The Plainsman close-up of sign UPDATE 01/09 : The Plainsman Restaurant is now closed and going through renovation. According to a family member of the owners, the restaurant should be open for business again one day. 01-09
The Copper Cart is well known in Seligman and to Route 66 aficionados for serving food and friendly service for years. Not to mention this sign, which has been featured in many publications. UPDATE 02/08 : The Copper Cart in Seligman is now closed. Many thanks to Dave van Hulsteyn for update. 02-08 UPDATE 01/09 : The Copper Cart restaurant reopened in April 2008 under new ownership. Here's the sign for the Butterfield Stage Co. steakhouse restaurant, located off the Route 66 loop in Holbrook. There always seems to be a crowd at this steakhouse at dinnertime.
The pouring coffee cup points the way into Pat's Family Restaurant near the downtown portion of Phoenix. The coffee cup icon looks real refreshing on a busy and tiring trip, though the restaurant wasn't open the last couple of times. The Cholla Restaurant in Holbrook has the same name as the nearby power plant located off of Route 66. UPDATE 01/09 : The Cholla Restaurant is now gone, replaced with a Calvary Chapel. The old sign frame is still there, although the yellow arrow and bulbs on top of the sign have been removed. 01-09
Next time you think of a marquee, think of a big ol' chicken. This neon chicken at the Marquee Restaurant is located right off the roadside in Mesa, AZ. Not sure what the food is like here.
This large sign for Bill Johnson's Big Apple is a fine reminder to the era when roadside businesses used to rely on roadside advertising and large signs to survive and make a buck.
