Route 66Travel along Route 66 through Tucumcari and you'll come across the Blue Swallow Motel. The Blue Swallow is one of the roadside motel treasures that you read about in books and see in videos. Originally owned and operated by Lillian Redman, the Blue Swallow has been carefully restored by owners Dale & Hilda Bakke. This is a must stop.

UPDATE 07/10 : The Bakkes are no longer owners of the motel and the paint scheme has been changed to different shades of blue. 07-10

Route 66This old faded sign for the El Coronado Motel in Gallup still stands, though not nearly as tall as in its heyday. Not sure when the neon last lit up at this motel. The sign looks pretty weather worn.

UPDATE 11/20 : Here are a couple more photos of the El Coronado Motel in Gallup. Located along the old route 66 just as you enter the stretch where the El Rancho and several other motels are, the El Coronado sign and building are still still surviving.
