Ranch Motel (Closed)
San Antonio, TX

The Ranch Motel still features its large swooping arrow on its marquee in San Antonio, TX.

The Ranch Motel was built in 1948 when the motel advertised TV and music in each of its 26 rooms and carriage tours of Brackenridge Park. Like many other motels and motor courts of the mid-century, the Ranch Motel has fallen into disrepair and become the site of criminal activity.

UPDATE 11/20 : The Ranch Motel closed down a couple of years ago. Its location at 3101 Broadway in San Antonio is undergoing a lot of change and a lot of the old times businesses are closing down to be replaced. 11-20

Pal-Tex Motel
Palestine, TX

Check out this marquee for the Pal-Tex Motel that stands alongside the road. The sign still advertises "refrigerated air." Based on the lettering, it appears that this motel dates back to around the 1940s or 1950s. Just a guess.

Tex Ann Motel
Palestine, TX

The Tex Ann Motel in Palestine, TX features a neon red star atop its sign. By the looks of things, it appears that this motel is still going strong. Not sure if the lettering on the old marquee or the red star still lights up these days.

UPDATE 11/20 : The Tex-Ann Motel is still open for business in Palestine. The sign is still there however the neon has been stripped off.

Here's the Siesta Motel in Tyler, TX, a court style of motel now abandoned and about one step away from the bulldozer. It must have really been nice 50 years ago. It appears to be apartments now.
