Check out the the marquee for the Steele Motel in San Antonio. Not sure if the sign is stating that there are 3 rooms with the rest being apartments or if the whole place has been converted to long-term housing. 07-07

The First Last Motel in Texas is something of a Route 66 landmark.

Depending on which direction you're going on Route 66, now I-40, this cleverly named motel is either the last motel found in Texas or the first. Found in the ghost town of Glenrio, TX, the First Last Motel is a fine example of a bypassed Route 66 business, left to rot as cars whiz by on the nearby interstate.

This motel is Homer Ehresman's family run 1955 Texas Longhorn Motel. The motel closed in 1976 just like other businesses that were bypassed by the Interstate. 11-10

Here's a shot of a classic sign for the Classic Inn. It's interesting to see how the arrow for the Classic Inn is designed right into the sign itself. The Classic Inn was built in 1941 as the Goodnight Motel.

This motel is located right next door to Hills Cafe. 05-04

UPDATE 11/20 : The Classic Inn is now closed. The property will be redeveloped soon.
