This shopping center sign is a fine example of the huge marquee that used to be prevalent along the roadside. Although some examples still exist, most of these sign have been taking down over the last decade and replaced with backlit plastic. The Westgate is a New York shopping center. The Hamden Plaza is located on Dixwell Avenue in Hamden, CT. The Hamden plaza is one of the first, if not the first, strip type shopping center in the country. This sign has been there since at least the early 60's and probably longer. 03-07
