Ritz Theatre

Here's an old classic theatre in Clearfield, PA on 111 E. Market St. called The Ritz. 07-08

UPDATE 05/20 : The Ritz Theatre dates back to the 1890's after which the theater portion was built in 1926. The theater still shows first run movies and is open 7 days a week. The Ritz received a grant to preserve the theater and convert to digital projection. 05-20

Here is the historic Criterion Theatre located in the town of Bal Harbor, Maine. The Bal Harbor Theatre was built in 1932 and now on the National Registry of Historic Places. Originally a vaudeville house and motion picture house, the Criterion features a "floating" balcony". The theatre is currently run by a non-profit group. 06-09

Here's the blade marquee for the Strand Theatre in Rockland, ME. According to the Strand Theatre website, the theatre has been in business since 1923 and underwent a historic restoration in 2004-2005, including updating with new sound and projection equipment. The Strand, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is home to both film and stage p productions. 09-10

 

 

Shore Theatre Coney IslandShore Theatre (Closed)

The Shore Theatre is a well known building in Coney Island. Built in 1925, the Shore was originally known by the community as Loew's Coney Island, serving up both movie and vaudeville entertainment. Like many of the businesses in the area, the Shore closed in 1973 and has been vacant since.

Carnegie Hall

A rather famous venue, the Carnegie Hall is a concert hall in the Midtown area of Manhattan. Built by Andrew Carnegie in 1891, it is well known throughout the world for its classical music. . The hall was almost demolished in 1959 however was saved by New York City who bought the building. 05-20

 

 

Ed Sullivan Theater

Here is the famous Ed Sullivan Theater in NYC. One of the famous lights on Broadway, the Ed Sullivan opened in 1927 after being built by Arthur Hammerstein. A musical house, the theater was bought by CBS in 1935. The venue was eventually named the Ed Sullivan Theater after the famous show host of the same name.

After its fame of having hosted many of the era's most famous acts like The Beatles and the Loving Spoonful, the theater then found fame as the home of The Late Show with David Letterman. If only the walls could talk. 05-20
