Alley with alarming information about Johnie's Broiler in Downey,
CA.
On Thursday evening April 11th, a blue tarp
is covering parts of the sign and the 'FAMILY' 'RESTAURANT' 'COFFEE SHOP'
neon lettering has now been removed. Three flatbed trucks are parked nearby
and six giant oxy-acetylene tanks are inside the now almost completely
gutted interior.

Yes, the end appears
to be near for this venerable coffee shop, former drive-in car hop. Please
contact the Modern Committee
of the Los Angeles Conservancy today for information on how to keep
one of the last remaining examples of googie from disappearing from the
roadside. Time is of the essence!
