Here's an old Service Merchandise catalog store with sign and letters still intact in Birmingham, AL. Founded in Nashville, TN in 1960, Service Merchandise used to compete for catalog sales dollars with Best and other catalog stores back in the 80's. The Service Merchandise retails all closed down and were shuttered in the 90's. According to the Service Merchandise site, they're back as a online retailer now. 06-06
Here's a former Kress store located in Elizabethton, TN. The Kress stores is a former retail chain founded by Samuel H. Kress in 1896. 02-08
This former Kress department store built in 1925 is still located in downtown Gastonia. Now home to a business called Hickory Furniture, this Kress building was designed by Edward F. Sibbert. The building is a part of the Downtown National Register Historic District. 07-08
The building is now known as Kress Terrace and is a "special event rental facility" today.
