Check out this neon sign for The Tavern in Austin. The place seems to pretty proud of its air conditioning as evidenced by the neon lettering on the marquee. With the heat of Austin summers, this place looks to be a good place to check out to beat the heat and grab some classic pub fare. According to The Tavern site, the business has a history that dates back to the early 1900s. 11-20

Threadgills is a local institution in Austin as a country music and beer joint since 1933. Threadgills has been at a couple of Austin sites including 6416 N. Lamar Boulevard and by the looks of their neon sign is a place to check out for some food and entertainment.

This just in as of April 2020. Eddie Wilson owner of the Threadgills decided to retire and shut down the business by selling the land at the N. Lamar location. According to Wilson , the "pandemic has been like a kick in the gut" which led to a temporary shuttering of Threadgills earlier in April. The second Threadgills on Riverside Drive closed in 2018. Seeing Threadgills go is an end of an era. Yet another Austin icon is now lost, this time due to the Pandemic. 11-20
