Koopman's Furniture
Bellflower, CA

The lettering still radiates blue at the Koopman's Furniture store in Bellflower. Koopman's has been a familiar sight in the area for many years.

Update 07/07 : Koopman's Furniture closed down in June 2007 after having been open since 1941. The sign will come down and the showroom will be leased to a national furniture chain. According to the Long Beach Press Telegram, the company couldn't keep up with international retailers like Wickes and IKEA. Another mom and pop business shuts down after losing to the big box stores. 07-07

Jet Stream Liquor
Burbank, CA
Photo and info courtesy Dan MacPherson

This beautiful neon sign the Jetstream Liquor was (and more or less still is) located south of the former Lockheed Air Terminal. The sign depicts the very graceful Lockheed Constellation 4 engined triple tailed transport of WWII and airliner of the 1950's. Unfortunately, this sign has been bastardized, and the "Connie" altered to look like (more or less, mostly less) the single tailed Douglas DC-3. For airplane and just "plane" people, this is a classic sign that will be missed as the WWII Burbank terminal area gives way to development.

Here's a neon shot of the famous Roxy in Hollywood. This is one of the music clubs that has featured great talent through the years.

Here's Gil Turner's liquor store located on the west end of the Sunset strip. This store can be well seen of the boulevard with its neon lettering.

(Below) Near the Roxy is another famous hot spot, the Whisky a Go Go. Word is, go go dancing was born at this place. The Whisky has been around since the mid-1960's and featured such famous acts as the Doors and Led Zeppelin.

This Yahoo sign/billboard features a huge neon glow off the boulevard. The neon billboard is proving to be a real eye-catcher and sometimes hair-raising sight, especially as you drive along the freeway late at night.
